Palmetto, FL
Palmetto, Florida, is a community of about 12,800 individuals in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. The community is located in the vicinity of Terra Ceia Bay and the Manatee River in Manatee County. Numerous fishing charters operate out of Palmetto.

History

Samuel Sparks Lamb is called the "father of Palmetto." In 1868, he named the community "Palmetto" because his home state of South Carolina was known as "The Palmetto State." The arrival of the railroad in 1902 brought many benefits to the area. Now, bricks could be shipped in, and this fact led to much more fire-resistant construction methods.

Bicyclists enjoy the network of trails, and kayakers will benefit from the launch area. Hikers and strollers will enjoy the estuary walk that includes a boardwalk. The observation tower can be a highlight of a family visit here.
